Paragraph One should serve as the “summary” of your assignment. The first paragraph should

Outline the essay’s key ideas through concise statements or quotations; do not cite the author’s examples or supporting ideas unless they are central to the main idea.
Present the major points in order the author makes them and reference back to them (for example, “Mathews argues that”
