Internet fraud can be defined as the practice of defrauding or exploiting victims via online software and services that rely on internet access. Each year, internet scams that target online users via online services generate millions of dollars in fraudulent activity, and the figures continue to increase as internet usage increases and cybercriminal techniques advance. Our team proposes the use of Artificial Intelligence to battle this menace that is costing the country billions of dollars every year.
Cybercrime is one of the FBI’s and other law enforcement’s most serious challenges. For law enforcement, it is vital to understand and use the Internet in order to prevent Internet fraud. White-collar fraud conducted via the Internet is comparable to white-collar fraud investigated by the FBI in the past, but poses unique issues and obstacles owing to the new context in which it happens (Shalaginov, Andrii. 2018). The statics on online fraud are worrying, yearly one in every ten adults in the United States falls victim to a scam or fraud, and 91 percent of those contacted by scammers on social media engagement, while 53% lost money.
Deep Learning (DL) and Machine learning (DL) solutions are now at the forefront of the fight against fraud and cybercrime across a variety of sectors, from retail and payment processing to insurance and financial services, and with the addition of new ready solutions that simplify the deployment of AI systems, IT teams now have simpler access to the weapons they need to defend the organization and its customers. Our deep learning system is built on widely acquired digital information by internet services, such as IP addresses, user nicknames, email domains, and user-agent strings. We provide a broad framework for detecting fraud in log data (Wang, Cheng, and Bo Yang. 2018)
For this project we will need personnel with intermediate programming skills especially in Python Programming Language and knowledge of cybersecurity will be a bonus.
To conclude, this is a project that if funded, can be beneficial on a global scale since statistics support our cause for the development of this solution.
