Preparation Assignments Topic Submission (5% of final grade) Students will submit a brief statement (1-2 sentences) of the topic they intend to research and write about. Be as narrow with the chosen topic as possible. The topic will be further narrowed RS103 Orientation and Research Methods 3 to create a thesis statement for the paper. Students will receive credit for submitting the assignment.
Thesis Statement Submission (5% of final grade) Students will submit a thesis statement that makes a claim that will be central to the argument of the paper. The thesis statement should be a clear, concise statement of your claim in 1-2 sentences. See Turabian chapter 5 and Topic to Thesis by Kibbe. Students will receive credit for submitting the assignment.
Outline Submission (5% of final grade) Students will submit an outline of the structure of the paper. The outline should show the structure the student will use in arguing the points of the paper’s thesis. The outline should contain major headings and any subheadings that help to structure the paper. The structure of the outline can assist in creating headings in the final paper. See Turabian 6.2.1 and 23.4.2.2 for help on creating outlines. Students will receive credit for submitting the assignment. Introduction
First Draft (5% of final grade) Students will submit a first draft of the introduction to the paper. The introduction should contain the thesis statement, a preview of how the thesis will be argued in the paper and orient the reader to the topic. Students will receive credit for submitting the assignment.
Written Assignment Research Paper Assignment (80% of final grade) The research paper should be 15 to 20 pages in length, not including the title page and bibliography and must be carefully researched, well-written, and conform to DTS Turabian style requirements.
